Electricity is so ubiquitous, it's easy to forget about its potential dangers. Use these tips to stay safely "powered up" on the job:
Use approved equipment: Only use equipment that has been approved by a national testing laboratory.
Don't overload circuits: Overloading outlets can cause electric shocks.
Use extension cords sparingly: Extension cords should be used sparingly, and if used, they should be fitted with surge protectors. Overloading extension cords can also compromise fire safety.
Avoid cords in walkways: Don't run cords under carpets or across busy walkways, and don't put them through doorways or pedestrian aisles.
Inspect equipment regularly: Regularly inspect cords and equipment and report any defects immediately (let a qualified electrician handle it).
Speak up: If you have questions or concerns about workplace safety, contact your staffing recruiter.
